Next week, we will sing and play Land of Liberty, Taps, and the Armed Forces Song and then have some well deserved free time.
It's time to review and reflect. In your child's report card this quarter, you will find a self-evaluation for all your child's specials classes. You'll notice that this year, we've used words like proactive, synergy, and begin with the end in mind. This leader language allows each child to truly reflect on what kind of a leader they were first quarter. This week, each student completed their own reflection in music and other specials. We also reviewed from last week if there was time.

I've had several students ask for the words and music that we are working on this week in music. I'm so excited to share this with you! Please practice at home. Then send me a message below so I can give you some extra credit! Land of Liberty This is my land, my land of liberty. Proudly, I stand and give my all to thee. America, America I promise to be true. My land of liberty, I'll do my best for you. This is your land, your land of liberty. You understand, that freedom is not free. America, America, oh hear your people sing. Your land of liberty, now let your freedom ring. Pledge of Allegiance This is our land, our land of liberty. All hand in hand, from sea to shining sea. America, America, still shining like the sun, Our land of liberty, share hope with everyone. Our land of liberty, share hope with everyone. Taps Armed Forces Song
Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, too help keep us free. Our armed forces guard and protect Our right to liberty. "Down came a lady, Down came two, Down came Lord Daniel's Wife and she was dressed in blue." This is the song we sang and played in kinder through third this week. We did several variations while playing a game and instruments. We continued with locomotor and nonlocomotor movements in kindergarten. We added some steady and rhythm in 1st and 2nd and then added the melody on recorders in 3rd.
Week 6, we will be learning a fun patriotic song that we will hopefully be presenting at flag around Veteran's Day. 4th and 5th grade continued with ostinatos. After recording, 4th grade watched a video about a famous Ukulele player named Jake from Hawaii. We played "Hey hey play the Ukulele" and will continue this week playing "Hey Lolly, Lolly." 5th grade will also be learning a patriotic song about our nations armed forces that we can sing either next week at flag or around Veteran's Day. It's hard to believe we're already half way through our first quarter of music. This was our week of music games in the lower grades. In kindergarten we played a game called Walk, Skip, Gallop. We learned that some movements are locomotor and some are nonlocomotor. See if you're kindergartner can tell the difference. In first and second grade we played Beat Detective. One student is the detective and goes outside while we select someone who will lead us in the steady beat. That beat can be found anywhere in the body and continues to change from clapping, to snapping, to all kinds of interesting beats. The beat detective comes back in and has to look around and find who started the beat. Pretty fun!
Third grade continued their recorder adventure, learning B, A and G. We played several songs reinforcing these three notes and we're still learning the basic rules, like left hand on top and blow soft, warm air. Practicing at home will help tremendously, so if you get an opportunity to get a recorder at home, please have your child practice. 4th and 5th graders are still working on their ostinatos. We had some entertaining performances that I hope to share here soon. Ukuleles are next! Exciting time are coming. Please remember that Thursday and Friday are half days.
